I was involved in the Valley Fields Park project while working as Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer at Harvest Housing Group.
Valley Fields Park in Partington was created in response to a number of residents copncerns about anti social behaviour, young people having no place of their own to play, and an unsightly piece of derelict land.
Pete's approach was to consult with the young people and residents on how best to meet their needs and the result was a user friendly, multi-use park, free of hiding spots and dark areas, but protected enough as to provide a feeling of safety for those in the park.
The residents and young people worked together with Pete to secure over £200K of funding to create a brand new park complete with multi-use games area, permimeter fencing, new pathways, teen shelter and new seating areas.
The project was shortlisted twice for a Greater Manchester Police 'Tilley Award' for reducing levels of anti social behaviour in the area.
